There is no more refreshing way to enjoy drinks especially this warm season than when it’s chilled or served with ice. At home, we always have those ice trays handy and more upgraded refrigerators, an ice dispenser.
For commercial purposes, ice machines are must-haves for the restaurant and hotel industries, to name some. For these businesses, the ice blocks are used for keeping food fresh and to serve food chilled. They are also used in other industrial applications aside from the food industry. It is due to this fact that the demand for a good ice block making machine has been growing.
What are the industrial ice block making machine?
These machines are the large-scale ice maker equivalent of the one in our household refrigerators. Just with these machines, the ice blocks they produce are of course larger than the normal dimensions of cubes we put in our drink. They even come in sizes that weigh up to 100 kilograms.
Since the ice blocks produced are also for industrial purposes, they also last longer and can reach lower temperatures compared to the normal ice cubes we usually use.
The industrial ice block making machine works with the same basic premise of making ice:
•Water is placed in cans
•These cans are submerged into tanks with brine solution or sodium
This process effectively gets the cans’ temperature below freezing point and solidifying the liquid placed inside them. With the advent of technology, this process is now done with less manpower and more efficient machines can complete the process quicker.
Since an industrial ice block making machine is a relatively big investment, they need to well-kept to ensure that they function efficiently for a long time.
Here are some important factors to keep in mind to maintain and even improve efficiency:
1. Quality of Water
This is the raw material in making the product. As per principle, the quality of what you put into the machine is the same quality as the product. There are two things to consider for this:
•Temperature of water – Ice blocks get made faster if you put cooler water into the cans. Since by mechanism, if you put in warm water, the machine has to work double the effort for you to achieve the right temperature of the product.
•Purity of water – the purer the water you use, the easier it is to freeze water into ice. The more impurities that the water has, the lower the temperature is needed to achieve frozen water.
2. Placement
Since this machine works mechanically, like people, it needs a breathing room. Proper ventilation and the regulated temperature are important to keep the machine in optimal condition. This can prevent rust formation, overheating and malfunctions that can be caused by fluctuations of external temperature and cramped spaces.
3. Power Supply
This machine uses energy. Since this is for industrial use, the energy it needs is way more than what is necessary for small-scale production. In terms of plugging this to a power supply, you should have a connection that is for this load only. This uses a lot of electric supply so having it split with other machines can cause overloading and can damage the machine when that happens.
This also ensures that it runs on an optimal level because it gets the right amount of energy it needs to operate.
4. Cleaning and Maintenance
As with all machines, even smaller ones, cleaning and regular maintenance is the key to keep your machine running smoothly for a long period of time.
For cleaning, make sure that you regularly check the interior and exterior parts and components of the machine. Since this machine works with water and moist is always present, it is easier for it to retain dirt. Not only will build up compromise the quality of the product but also the way the machine functions.
For maintenance, you should make sure that you employ experts to do the machine testing and recalibration should there ever a need to do so. Descaling is the same as when we defrost our refrigerators to rid it off ice build-up. This also ensures that clogs are prevented. With clogs, your machines may not be able to produce good ice blocks.
Keep your clients happy with clear high-quality block ices and get more out of your investment by taking care of your equipment like how you take care of personal items---it is always the key!
